File stays encrypted (as it was received) on the recipient device all the time, while it can be opened only by the meDRM app, which asks for the decryption key from the Policy server every time the recipient tries to open/view the file.
meDRM actively blocks screenshots and screen recordings on all devices.
The file is encrypted by the strongest AES-256 encryption (matches NSA top-secret classification ) and cannot be opened by anything other than a meDRM app that must receive a valid decryption key from the Policy server every time there is an open attempt.For example if recipient want to view the received sensitive photo twice , its meDRM client app will send request to Policy server twice in order to decrypt the file, since without the decryption key it’s not possible to open and view the file.
Files are stored in secured & encrypted form only on the Owner device and on recipient devices to whom they sent by the Owner, while on Owner device they stored with the decryption key and on recipient devices they stored without the decryption key, that must be received from the Policy server every time recipient trying to open/view the file.
Yes, for full protection, the recipient must open the file in the meDRM app only. No other app can send a request to the Policy server for the decryption key to open the received file.
There are a variety of privacy control properties that can be instantly changed every time, even long after the file was shared:
- Blocked or Open: allows you anytime block access to the sent files on all recipient devices anytime.
- Views count: how many times this file can be opened or leave it blank for unlimited.
- View duration: how long (seconds) this file can be viewed or leave it blank for unlimited.
- Expiration date: After which date the file won’t be accessible anymore by anyone of recipients or leave it blank for unlimited.
Yes. You can revoke access instantly at any time, even a years after you’ve shared your sensitive photo/video file and the file becomes immediately unavailable to the recipient. Because basically you order the Policy server not to send the decryption key to none of the recipient meDRM apps
Absolutely. Just send the protected file through any messenger or email, WiFi/Bluetooth sharing or even upload to any cloud and share the link. Access control still applies, no matter how you share your sensitive file.
Not yet, meDRM in the future will provide access logs, including when and how many times your file was opened.
meDRM is currently free. In the future, premium features or a subscription model may be introduced.
By design we simply don’t have Owner sensitive files in our Servers, we just keep the decryption key in our Policy server (inside encrypted & secured Database) and provide the decryption keys to the recipients upon Access policy set by the Owner. So we simply don’t know what you send, to whom you send, by which method you send it and when.
We plan some very interesting features that will provide security & control not only over shared sensitive content files, but even locally on the Owner device. Moreover other unique features under development that will convince you to use the meDRM app as your central place for all your sensitive photo/video files security and privacy control. Stay tuned!
